International Excursions

Koonung has developed strong relationships with our three Sister Schools in China, France, and Japan, as well as having students undertake World Challenge. .

There are regular visits between our schools with Sister School students coming to Koonung and Koonung students attending their schools and participating in extended in-country study tours to further enhance their language skills and develop a deeper cultural understanding.

Japan

Our Sister School is the Matsudo Municipal High School located in Matsudo City, north of Tokyo in Chiba Prefecture. Koonung has been in this relationship since 1987 when an expression of interest was received from the former City of Box Hill, now City of Whitehorse, to form a relationship. The inaugural visit to Matsudo was a great success and a decision was made that the exchanges continue between our two schools on a regular basis.

Koonung conducts a study tour and Matsudo home stay visit to Japan every other year, with the reciprocal visit from Japan in the preceding year. Koonung also hosts the Matsudo International Youth Exchange each year of which the winners of the English language competition are home stayed by Koonung families, giving further opportunities for our students to increase their Japanese language skills and for the Japanese to experience the Australian way of life.

France

Our Sister School is the Lycee Saint Charles Baudimont located in the City of Arras, in Northern France. Our relationship commenced in 2004, with the inaugural visit by the French students to Koonung. Since then we have had many exchanges that have advanced our student's skills in French and given them a deeper understanding and appreciation of the French culture.

China

Our Sister School is Lushun Middle School located in Dalian, east of Beijing. Koonung's inaugural student visit to Dalian, with side trips to Beijing, Xian and Shanghai, was in 2012. In our first visit, the students experienced the structure of the Chinese education system, a friendly home stay with students from the school, and the delights of many famous historic and important cultural sites. Exchange visits are expected to occur on alternate years.
