Year 7 is a time of transition and to ensure it is smooth and exciting, Koonung Secondary College runs an extensive transition program. Primary schools are consulted about the new students, parents are able to give their input and the new students visit Koonung twice to complete fun and informative activities. On the official state wide Orientation Day, students complete a specially designed program with the assistance of their mentors, who are only too ready and willing to help them find their feet. It isn’t long before students feel comfortably connected to their new school.

In Year 8 students are part of an exciting program delivered in our ICT rich Flexible Learning Centre, where the emphasis is on encouraging students to become independent learners in an inquiry based environment.

Extra-curricular activities, such as outdoor education, school musical productions, debating and a range of academic competitions complement the more formal academic program.

Throughout the junior years

• Students study a broad and inclusive curriculum delivered in a manner which provides them with the opportunity to work in and develop the different learning styles.
• There is a strong emphasis on Pastoral Care.
• Leadership opportunities, including helping to train student leaders from local primary schools, abound.
• Have the opportunity to attend a Year 7 Orientation Camp and in Year 8 both an Outdoor Education Camp and a Ski Camp shared with other year levels.
