Koonung Secondary College conducts a comprehensive pastoral care program called Connections for students in Years 7 to 9. Connections is a vehicle to enhance student connectedness to their peers, teachers, house, whole school, and Senior student leaders.
The course focuses on encouraging our students to maximise their learning opportunities by enabling them to feel safe, comfortable and valued. students learn strategies for preventing and standing up to bullying behaviour. Homework, study skills, time management, and issues of self-esteem are also a focus
Year 7 is a time of transition and to ensure it is smooth and exciting, Koonung Secondary College runs an extensive transition program. Primary schools are consulted about the new students, parents are able to give their input and the new students visit Koonung to complete fun and informative activities. On the Orientation Day, students complete a specially designed program with the assistance of their mentors, who are only too ready and willing to help them find their feet. It isn't long before students feel comfortably connected to their new school.
The Year 10 Link program helps students develop support networks amongst their peers. Providing them with this opportunity assists in preparing them for VCE, and is part of Koonung's commitment to developing the "whole student".
The Pathways program at Year 10 provides students with the opportunity to develop an awareness of the study and career options available to them.
